Chiefs Andy Reid One Game Away from Chasing History

On Saturday, the Kansas City Chiefs went to work and defeated the Houston Texans 23-14. It was business as usual for them, and even though their counterpart accepted defeat before they arrived at Arrowhead, that does not demean the job Head Coach Andy Reid did in getting his team back to the AFC Championship game.

The Kansas City Chiefs are returning to the AFC Championship game for the seventh consecutive season. They hold a 4-2 record during this stretch and aim to return to the Super Bowl with a win against either the Baltimore Ravens or the Buffalo Bills next Sunday in Kansas City.

On Saturday, the Chiefs defeated the Houston Texans. They sacked CJ Stroud eight times and knocked him to the ground another 15 times. Only one Chiefs wide receiver, Xavier Worthy, caught a pass.

Hollywood Brown, DeAndre Hopkins, and JuJu Smith-Schuster didn’t catch a single pass. Why did that happen? Because Head Coach Andy Reid is a pure evil genius.

The Texans feature two exceptional pass rushers, Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter. The secondary includes Kamari Lassiter and Derek Stingley Jr., leaving Reid to make a tough choice.

Reid utilized his receivers as decoys, creating more space for Travis Kelce to function effectively in the middle of the field. This strategy led to Kelce recording seven receptions for 121 yards and a touchdown. Reid also placed Worthy in certain situations when he wasn’t matched against the Texans’ top corners.

His plan succeeded, and now the Chiefs are just one game away from competing in their third consecutive Super Bowl.

The Chiefs are setting a new standard in the postseason. The Texans felt frustrated after their loss, believing the officials had disappointed them. However, they ultimately lost because of their special teams and failure to protect the quarterback. They also lost this game because they lacked the mental toughness needed to overcome the challenges they created.

With the win on Saturday, Reid has now amassed 300 career wins in his hall-of-fame coaching career. His accomplishment of these historic numbers in Kansas City is a testament to an organization with every franchise level on the same page.

Still, it all rests on the shoulders of Reid, who has attained a level of coaching genius that few men ever achieve – the 300 club. Only three other men have done so: Don Shula, George Halas, and Bill Belichick.

However, you must possess great talent, and Reid has a generational quarterback in Patrick Mahomes, who is as driven as the man who calls his plays with every snap.

Reid’s talent for getting his skilled receivers to take on more minor roles on Saturday is his superpower. He knew precisely what the Texans planned to throw at him, and he completely turned the tables on them. He even accepted a few sacks on his quarterback because the pass rush threat wasn’t worth risking the Texans’ secondary strength.

We are incredibly fortunate in Kansas City to be experiencing the Chiefs’ golden age of football. Forget how the Chiefs reached this point; they made it happen. Yes, it’s not always pretty, but style points matter, too, and Kansas City knows how to win playoff games better than any other team in the league today.

This happens because both the coaches and players embrace the game plan. They don’t question it and work hard to execute it as their head coach outlines during the week.

So, to those doubters or fan bases who believe the Chiefs get all the breaks, I say play better, be more prepared, and win the games on the field instead of in the media after losing once again to Kansas City.
