Chiefs Fans It’s Bills Week

The Kansas City Chiefs learned their AFC Title game opponent on Sunday Night, and a familiar face will travel to Arrowhead next weekend. The Buffalo Bills dispatched the Baltimore Ravens in an epic divisional round game that aligns these teams to meet again in the playoffs.

Anyone watching the Buffalo Bills’ 27-25 victory over the Baltimore Ravens will see they certainly got their opponents’ help. Lamar Jackson had two costly turnovers, and tight end Mark Andrews fumbled and missed a critical two-point conversion in the end zone.

You can say whatever you want about Jackson, but he’s never had a two-game win streak in the postseason. He’s the best fantasy cheat code quarterback in the NFL, and that’s probably his ceiling.

On the other hand, the Buffalo Bills have shown consistency throughout the season. They are ranked the second-best team in the AFC, behind the Chiefs. While they benefited from luck on Sunday, they can take pride in their achievements.

Now, the Bills must prepare to face the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead in the cold, aware that they have never defeated them in a playoff game. The Bills are 0-3 in their pursuit of stopping the Chiefs’ Super Bowl trajectory.

Kansas City played a relatively simple game against the Houston Texans. Although the score was close entering the fourth quarter, the Texans proved no match for the Chiefs’ determination and execution on both sides of the field.

That AFC Divisional Round contest felt like a preseason game for Kansas City, and the result of their AFC Championship game against the Bills will now determine their pursuit of a three-peat Super Bowl championship.

As Chiefs fans, we’ve all been waiting for this matchup. Buffalo triumphed over Kansas City in October, thanks to a stellar performance from Josh Allen. The Chiefs didn’t perform well in that game and were missing some of their offensive talent.

That won’t be the case on Sunday, as the Chiefs head into this game at their healthiest point of the season. Last Saturday, cornerback Jaylen Watson returned to the defense and shook off the rust.

Head Coach Andy Reid executed a solid game plan against the Texans, but the Bills defense present more significant challenges for his offense. Therefore, he must revise the playbook and devise strategies the Bills have never encountered.

Fortunately, he has Patrick Mahomes at the helm of his offense, supported by a committed group of offensive players who understand their roles, regardless of whether they have the ball.

The Chiefs’ offense has been simplified, and their success is credited to Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Kareem Hunt, and Xavier Worthy. However, that doesn’t mean Hollywood Brown and DeAndre Hopkins aren’t necessary to the offense; they serve as complementary pieces.

Then again, those pieces could have a significant impact on Sunday.

However, during an early assessment, the focus will be on the Chiefs’ defense and their ability to contain Josh Allen. At the NFL level, he can achieve anything with his arms and legs. He’s an elite player who deserves to be the NFL MVP this season.

On Sunday, he confronts his career’s most formidable challenge and obstacle. The Chiefs remain the hurdle he has yet to overcome in the playoffs. Mahomes was outstanding the last time these two teams faced off with thirteen seconds left in regulation.

Chiefs fans will replay those seconds repeatedly, so don’t doubt for a moment that it will stay in the minds of the Bills players as they prepare for Sunday’s game. They know what’s at stake and will feel confident they can compete against the Chiefs.

However, the Bills will need an outstanding performance to win this game. Even if that occurs, the Chiefs will be prepared to shift their fortunes once again.
