Trump Brags About Doing 18 Rallies in 15 Days: “I’m Working Like a Dog”

President Trump closed a nearly two-hour Greenville rally on Oct. 20 by boasting about doing about 18 rallies in 15 days before Election Day.

Nearly two hours into his speech in Greenville, North Carolina, on Tuesday night, President Donald Trump was still going — and he wanted the crowd at Pitt-Greenville Airport to know exactly how hard he was working for a midterm map he is now carrying almost entirely himself.

The closing stretch of the Oct. 20 rally turned into a marvel at his own schedule. Trump said this midterm was different from past ones, when he largely let other people do the campaigning while he stayed back. This time, he told supporters, the work is his. That change, he suggested, was deliberate, because the congressional majorities were on the line this fall.

“I’m doing something different. I’m working like a dog.”

He laid out the pace in plain numbers, counting down the final stretch before Election Day on Nov. 3 and the rallies still left on his own calendar.

“We have like 15 days [before Election Day], and I’m doing about 18 rallies. That’s work.”

One Man Carrying the Midterm Map

The Greenville appearance itself underlined the point. According to the New York Post report on the rally, Trump held the podium for roughly one hour and 52 minutes. Factbase rated it the second-longest speech of his presidency, and the Reuters pool report from Greenville described a president on a campaign blitz, urging voters to back his favored Senate candidate in a race that could help decide the balance of power in Washington.

Trump brought Republican Senate hopeful Michael Whatley and other down-ballot candidates onto the stage for brief remarks, then closed with a prediction that the polls would miss again, as he argued his side had the energy.

“I think you’re gonna see some amazing results. They never poll us right. We have more spirit.”

That confidence is where the debate starts. Supporters hear a stamina flex: a president willing to outwork the calendar, speak for nearly two hours, and personally drag his party across the finish line in state after state. Skeptics hear something else — a sign the party has no one else who can carry these races, with Trump having to show up everywhere himself.

The numbers behind that argument are not in his favor right now. His approval sits at 31% in the Reuters/Ipsos polling reported this week, and down-ballot Republicans trail in several states despite the blitz, including the North Carolina Senate contest he came to Greenville to lift.

Viewers could not agree which version Greenville proved. Was it proof of stamina no other Republican can match, or proof that the whole midterm now depends on one man doing 18 rallies in 15 days?
