First Kelce and Now Brown Set to Return

With free agency set to begin on Wednesday, the Kansas City Chiefs kept one of their own on Saturday. Wide Receiver Hollywood Brown will return in 2025 on a one-year deal.

After learning of Xavier Worthy’s legal issues early Saturday morning, the Kansas City Chiefs officially announced they are bringing back Wide Receiver Hollywood Brown. He has agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $11 million with salary and incentives.

The rumblings this off-season indicated the Buffalo Bills were the front-runner for Hollywood Brown, but ChiefsBlitz.com learned that wasn’t the case. After suffering a near-season-ending injury in 2024, he wanted to play another season with Patrick Mahomes.

Kansas City is relatively thin at the wide receiver position. Rahsee Rice will return in 2025 but is facing an NFL suspension. Xavier Worthy’s arrest today clouds his status to start the season with the Chiefs.

After successful surgery to repair a dislocated sternoclavicular (SC) joint, he endured a grueling rehab to get back on the field in 2024.

Brown played his first game on December 21st at home against the Houston Texans. Though productive, he had to overcome the long layoff since his injury in August. His touches were down in the postseason from the few games he played to end the regular season, but he showed enough that bringing him back made sense for the Chiefs.

Looking ahead, it’s still likely the Chiefs will draft or add another free-agent wide receiver next week. They’ve also been rumored to be interested in Seattle Seahawks wideout DK Metcalf, but that price tag might be too rich for Brett Veach.

This signing is a strong move to balance the passing game. Further, whenever Hollywood, Rice, Worthy, and Travis Kelce, who announced his return this week, Patrick Mahomes will have some exciting targets.
