Chiefs Add Hard Hitting Safety in the Fourth Round

Finally, Kansas City Chiefs Defensive Coordinator has a new defensive player on the roster. In adding Safety, Jaden Hicks from Washington State, the team adds a very versatile athlete who can pass defend, and support the run.

You knew the Kansas City Chiefs would draft a defensive player at some point, and they did just that in the fourth round.  Jaden Hicks from Washington State is the type of defender the Chiefs covet. He is the perfect combination of physical talent and ball-hawking abilities.

Last year, veteran Mike Edwards signed a one-year contract with Kansas City but was not offered a new deal in March. He ended up signing with the Buffalo Bills during free agency. Aiding the decision to draft Hicks might be the timeline for last year’s starting Safety, Bryan Cook, to return from his ankle surgery end of the season.

The Chiefs defense was outstanding last season, and Hicks is a perfect addition to the roster. He doesn’t have to be the starter, and they can ease him into a backup role. The Chiefs have done a fantastic job developing young secondary talent and getting them as contributors and playmakers on the field.

There’s no question he can play, and during training camp, Spags and Dave Merritt will see what they have in the young safety from Washington State.  One thing is sure Hicks faced some of the best quarterbacks in college football, so he should be just fine adjusting to the speed of the NFL.
