On Friday afternoon, while the Chiefs organization was re-affirming its commitment to Jackson County, Head Coach Andy Reid, updated the final injury report heading into Sunday’s season finale against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid announced on Friday that Rashee Rice, L’Jarius Sneed, Kadarius Toney, and Donovan Smith are out for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Also, the Chiefs listed Isiah Pacheco, Nick Bolton, Trent McDuffie, George Karlaftis, and Mike Danna are questionable for Sunday’s game. Finally, the Chiefs added that Patrick Mahomes is doubtful. It was already known that Blaine Gabbert would make his first regular-season start for the Chiefs.
Gabbert indicated this week that he intends to have fun and open the offense to such players as wide receivers Justyn Ross and Mecole Hardman. He also mentioned Toney, but Reid ruled him out.
Rice was on pace to get 1,000 receiving yards, but he’ll fall short, and honestly, he needs more incentive to play. Pacheco, who is back at practice, might get his chance, but Reid would be wise to rest his star running back. However, Tight End Travis Kelce, 16 yards from exceeding 1,000 receiving yards for the eighth consecutive season, will likely get a chance to do that on the Chief’s opening offensive possession.
One thing is certain: Kelce won’t be attending the 81st Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles, where his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, is up for best picture.
