Dre Greenlaw waited seven months for this moment — and when it finally came, he made sure Sean Payton heard every word of it.
The San Francisco 49ers linebacker unleashed a profanity-laced tirade at the Denver Broncos head coach following the Niners’ 24-14 win at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday, screaming “get the f*ck off my field” as teammate Fred Warner physically steered him away from Payton at midfield.

Greenlaw later confirmed to reporters exactly what he said, showing zero remorse for the confrontation.
“I told him to get the f— off the field. That’s it: ‘Get the f— off the field,'” Greenlaw said.
The bad blood runs deep. Greenlaw spent the 2025 season in Denver after signing a three-year, $35 million contract with the Broncos. But after missing time with a quad injury and a suspension, the Broncos cut him in March — and Greenlaw says Payton never even had the decency to call him.
“The disrespect,” Greenlaw said. “He couldn’t be man to man and call my phone and say, ‘We’re going to cut you.'”
Greenlaw claims Payton hadn’t spoken to him since November of last season, freezing out his own player for months before the release.
Sunday was personal from the opening kick. After his first tackle — a stop of running back RJ Harvey along the Broncos sideline — Greenlaw pointed directly at Payton and started yelling. He finished with a team-high 12 tackles and a forced fumble, his most tackles in a game since December 2023.
Denver went the first 55 minutes without finding the end zone as Greenlaw flew all over the field.
The win moved San Francisco to 4-0, keeping them perfect on the season.
Payton, for his part, tried to downplay the whole thing after the game.
“I think the world of him. I love everything about him,” Payton said. “He plays with that emotion and so, all good.”
But it’s safe to say the feeling isn’t mutual.
Social media erupted over the footage, with fans split down the middle. Some praised Greenlaw for standing up for himself after being disrespected by his former coach. Others called the outburst unprofessional, pointing to Greenlaw’s suspension last season for threatening a referee.
Niners fans, though, are loving every second of it. Their linebacker got his revenge, got his win, and got the last word — all in one afternoon.
The 49ers and Broncos won’t meet again this regular season, but if they cross paths in January, circle that date. This feud is far from over.
