The Kansas City Chiefs are revamping their offensive coaching staff. With Matt Nagy out and Eric Bieniemy likely returning as offensive coordinator, the team has a new wide receivers coach.

In 2003, Chad O’Shea interned with the Kansas City Chiefs. Twenty-one years later, he became the team’s new wide receivers coach, replacing Connor Embree, who was let go last week.
O’Shea had been with Kevin Stefanski’s Browns before he was fired by Cleveland last week. O’Shea could have gone to Atlanta to follow his former head coach, but instead, he came to the Chiefs as the new receivers coach. He also served as the Browns’ passing coordinator.
The decision to hire O’Shea is an important one for the Chiefs. With Rashee Rice’s future uncertain, his primary job will be to develop Xavier Worthy, Jalen Royals, and hopefully Tyquan Thornton.

He did an outstanding job with the Browns despite the revolving door at the quarterback position. If Rice returns and Thornton is retained, O’Shea should be able to get the most out of his receivers.
The good news about this hire is that O’Shea has been working with NFL receivers since he was hired by the Minnesota Vikings in 2007. He’s also worked for the New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins, so he has the experience the Chiefs need.
Embree, a former running backs coach, had never worked with receivers until Head Coach Andy Reid gave him a chance. He failed miserably over the past two years, and it was clear that Travis Kelce and JuJu Smith-Schuster were the coaches on the field with the team’s young receivers.
With Eric Bieniemy set to return as offensive coordinator, if this hire was his suggestion, he’s off to a strong start.
