The Kansas City Chiefs will learn the fate of their entire schedule on Wednesday evening, but reports have circulated that the team will open the 2025 season in Sao Paulo, Brazil, against their division rival, the Los Angeles Chargers.

The NFL announced Monday morning that the Philadelphia Eagles will host the Dallas Cowboys in the season opener on Thursday, September 4th. One day later, the Kansas City Chiefs will face the Los Angeles Chargers in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
This will be a home game for the Chargers, so their annual ritual of seeing half their stadium full of Chiefs fans will be missed this season. Rumors about this game began at the Owners’ meeting in late March, and the NFL, wanting to capitalize on the Chiefs’ cash cow ratings status, was more than happy to make this game a reality.
Last season, the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles started the NFL’s desire to create another opening night experience for their fans and wallets.
This trip means it’s unlikely the Chiefs will travel to Europe this season, meaning they’ll have nine home games at Arrowhead this season. Yet, as a global phenomenon, the Chiefs are for the NFL, wouldn’t put it past them to have the Chiefs as a road game on another foreign soil in October or November.
Kansas City hopes to avenge their bitter Super Bowl loss, and playing against a familiar foe to open the season might be to their advantage.
