With their first pick of the day, the Kansas City Chiefs added some firepower to their offense by selecting Utah State Wide Receiver, Jalen Royals.

There was no question the Kansas City Chiefs were going to add some offensive firepower on day three of the NFL draft. The thought they’d go running back, but when Utah State Jalen Royals started to fall, General Manager Brett Veach added another young wide receiver.
With his addition, the Chiefs have a solid core of young receivers in Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, and Royals. With veterans Hollywood Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster, this might be the best receiver room the Chiefs have had in years.
Last year, he was a standout at Utah State but only played in seven games. He injured his foot and was shut down for the year. He set a combine record with a 1.49-second 10-yard split, showing his acceleration once he catches the ball.

Looking ahead, drafting the Royals made a lot of sense for the Chiefs, who will be without Rashee Rice at the start of the 2025 season. Although his court cases have not been settled, it’s expected that he’s facing a four- to six-game suspension.
Either way, Head Coach Andy Reid has another weapon, and the young receiving core, along with a player who has YAC potential, will fit right into the narrative that Mahomes indicated this week: the desire to bring back the big-play offense that was a staple of his game years ago.
