Chiefs Focus is Winning not the Noise

On Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs will play the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. If they win, they will become the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive championships. However, that’s the conclusion of the game; this week, the focus is on securing a victory.

The Three-Peat narrative is undeniably captivating, but for the Kansas City Chiefs, it represents a tale of media attention and the excitement surrounding the AFC powerhouse. For Head Coach Andy Reid this week, it’s all about business.

This team is as prepared as any in the NFL for moments when the spotlight shines brightest, and there’s no bigger stage than the Super Bowl. This readiness is largely due to Head Coach Andy Reid and his quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.

What has transpired since he became the Chiefs’ starting quarterback is nothing short of a miracle. We are living in unprecedented times in Kansas City, and I believe that most fans are not taking this for granted. Eventually, it will come to an end, but that seems to be in the future.

Distractions and dangers are still anticipated during Super Bowl Week. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell addressed reporters today regarding the perceived favoritism of NFL officiating crews in games involving the Chiefs.

“That’s a ridiculous theory — for anyone who might take it seriously,” Goodell stated. “But at the end of the day, we always have to continue to work on it: How do we make our officiating better?”

The Chiefs have been one of the most penalized teams in the NFL since Mahomes joined Kansas City. Goodell is correct. It’s a myth that comes from social media chatter and pundits who keep this discussion at the forefront of their game analysis or their disdain for the Chiefs.

I understand. The New England Patriots held a two-decade dominance over the AFC East and the NFL. However, the Chiefs were mostly struggling during that period, and I certainly came to admire the greatness of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.

That should apply to Reid and Mahomes. I believe that pure fans, who recognize how rare dynasties are in any sport, appreciate how the Chiefs have achieved their success. However, some people think they’re getting all the calls, and that has led to the cheating narrative that followed the Patriots.

The bottom line is that there isn’t an NFL fan base that wouldn’t trade their team for the Chiefs’ success now or the Patriots’ success before Mahomes arrived.

You need to recognize that the Chiefs are an anomaly in the sports world. Forget the three-peat chase; their dominance isn’t due to luck or officiating; it’s because they prepare and practice tirelessly every week.

Mahomes has experienced difficult losses, yet he’s driven like Michael Jordan to learn from them and the setbacks that have shaped him into the exceptional quarterback he is today in Kansas City.

Thanks to his determination and commitment to starting each season with the singular goal of winning the Super Bowl, it’s one thing to say it but quite another to achieve it. Mahomes is competing in his fifth Super Bowl as a seven-year NFL starter.

This week, Mahomes and his teammates refuse to engage with the narrative surrounding the officials and show no fear of their opponents. They brush aside distractions and never make excuses for winning Super Bowls.
