In October, Kansas City Chiefs Cornerback Jaylen Watson broke his leg against the San Francisco 49ers. He wasn’t sure he would return at that stage of the season. However, the Chiefs designated him to return last week, and now it is news that he could play on Saturday.

In the first seven weeks of the NFL season, no cornerback played better than Chiefs Jaylen Watson. However, a broken leg ended his season, and it was feared we would not see him back with the team until next season.
However, after successful surgery, relentless rehab, and a desire to overcome every obstacle, Watson could start on Saturday in the divisional round against the Houston Texans.
It’s pretty improbable that Watson is in this position, but he’d been very cagy in his social media posts the last month that his season was over. He backed that up and has been cleared by the Chiefs medical team to play football again.
Watson was on pace for an All-Pro Season. Next to Chris Jones, Trent McDuffie, and Nick Bolton, the third-year cornerback with two Super Bowl rings was playing impressive football.

Per Nate Taylor with the Athletic, he reports that Watson will resume his starting role for the Chiefs defense against the Texans. This is a massive addition to KC’s secondary. The move will allow McDuffie to return to the slot, where he excels at pass coverage and blitzing the quarterback.

McDuffie has split his time between playing outside and inside to this point in the season. In Watson’s absence, Joshua Williams, Chamarri Connor, Nazeeh Johnson, and Chris Roland-Wallace have rotated playing in the back end.
Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has to be happy with Watson’s return. He now has another option protecting the defense’s back end, and he can utilize McDuffie in various ways.
In reality, Watson could be a bit rusty, but it’s our understanding that he’s participated in all the drills this week in preparation for the Texans game.
