The Kansas City Chiefs, who clinched the top seed in the AFC on Wednesday with a resounding road victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers, are getting healthy with the playoffs starting next month. DJ Humphries is expected to return, but so could one of the Chief’s best defenders.
Perhaps outside the Detroit Lions, no team has lost more players to injury than the Kansas City Chiefs. However, unlike the NFC North team, the AFC West team is getting healthy at the end of the season. Left Tackle DJ Humphries (Hamstring) could play a week from Sunday against the Denver Broncos.
It will be interesting to see if Andy Reid makes him a starter again if he’s 100 percent healthy for the playoffs. Joe Thuney has been dominant, and I could see the Chiefs Head Coach sticking with him throughout the postseason.
On the defense, Steven Nelson should make his Chiefs debut against the Broncos, as the team was hoping to get him some reps before the playoffs begin. However, he might not be the only cornerback back on the field in January.
Jaylen Watson posted a video on his Instagram page showing him running full speed at the Chiefs practice facility. His return would be a massive boost to KC’s defense. Joshua Williams and Trent McDuffie have carried the load in his absence, but adding Nelson and a healthy Watson would be a blessing of riches for the defense.
Watson has been hinting on his X account about a return in January and has teased fans with the possibility he could return. He broke his leg in two places late in the game against the San Francisco 49ers. Like Isiah Pacheco, they inserted plates, pins, and screws to stabilize the leg.
Two months later, he’s running full speed, and with three weeks until the Chief’s first playoff game, his return remains a real possibility.
