On Saturday before departing to Cleveland for Sunday’s AFC showdown against the Browns, the Kansas City Chiefs announced several roster moves.
Last week Kicker Matthew Wright was the AFC Special Teams Player of the week. His 31-yard game winning field goal heard around the world sealed a comeback win against the Los Angeles Chargers. On Saturday, the Chiefs released last week’s hero and activated All Pro Kicker, Harrison Butker.
Four weeks ago, Butker had knee surgery to repair a small meniscus tare in his left knee. The rumbllings when he was placed on injured reserve suggested he’d miss four games. Well, that was solid intel as he’ll resume the kicking duties on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.
The Chiefs hope to get Wright back on the practice squad, but based on his success in Kansas City, it’s likely he lands on another NFL team.
In other moves, the Chiefs elevated Practice Squad players LB Swayze Bozeman and TE Anthony Firkser via Standard Elevation for Sunday’s game. The team also announced that Left Tackle DJ Humphries was out for the Browns game. He could return next Saturday when the Chiefs host the Houston Texans.
His absence means the Chiefs could start Joe Thuney at left tackle and Mike Caliendo could start at left guard. Wanya Morris came in when Humphries went out of the game last Sunday, but with Myles Garrett in pro bowl form, the Chiefs might alter there offensive line to help Patrick Mahomes.
Remember, Morris has been suffering from a bruised kneecap, so he’ll likely serve as a back-up against the Browns.
