On Wednesday, the Kansas City Chiefs indicated that Kicker Harrison Butker would return to practice and open his 21-day window to return to the active roster.
Since Harrison Butker had surgery to repair a partially torn Meniscus on his left knee, the Kansas City Chiefs have had an open-door policy when trying to find his replacement. Spencer Sharder was activated from the New York Jets practice squad.
He kicked the game-winner against the Carolina Panthers, but a day later, his season ended with a knee injury during a routine workout.
Mathew Wright was added to the roster when Shrader went on injured reserve. On Sunday night, he kicked four field goals, including the game-winner, and was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Still, adding the skills and leg of Butker, who did some kicking on Wednesday, is the best news of all. Head Coach Andy Reid indicated that it’s possible he could be activated for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns. However, the weather at game time is expected to be rainy, with temperatures in the low 40s.
That might cause Reid to wait another week and let Butker return for their Saturday home game against the Houston Texans at Arrowhead.
Either way Butker will return soon and the Chiefs will get back another of their walking wounded.
