On Saturday, the Kansas City Chiefs made a significant roster move. Super Bowl hero Mecole Hardman was placed on injured reserve, and the fan favorite will replace him on the 53-man roster ahead of the team’s Sunday Night showdown against the Chargers.
Mecole Hardman has steadily performed well for the Kansas City Chiefs. However, he won’t be playing down the stretch. On Thursday, it was reported that he had a knee injury, and this morning, the team placed him on Injured Reserve.
To fill that roster spot, the Chiefs added Wide REceiver Nikko Remigio to the team. He will debut on Sunday Night against the Los Angeles Chargers.
It’s been a long journey for Remigio, who showed promise a year ago before an ACL injury kept him off the field in 2023. However, he fought back and, at one point, was a lock to make the initial 53-man roster, but a poor preseason effort pushed him to the practice squad.
Now he gets another chance, healthy and probably humble, to show he belongs on the Championship team. His kick-off and punt returner skills could add a spark to special teams. However, seeing how many reps he gets on the offense will be interesting.
Hardman’s loss will last at least four weeks, so Remigio will have an extended time to find a role with the Chiefs.
In other moves, the Chiefs elevated practice squad players linebacker Swayze Bozeman and TE Baylor Cupp. Both have been elevated before and could be active Sunday Night against the Chargers.
With a win over their division rival, the Chiefs can clinch their ninth consecutive AFC West Crown. The New England Patriots hold the record for consecutive division titles with 11 straight.
