With Cleveland Browns Quarterback Deshaun Watson injured, the team dipped into the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad to find a replacement.
Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Bailey Zappe never saw the active roster. However, after being a part-time starter in 2023 for the New England Patriots, the Cleveland Browns, in search of another quarterback, plucked Zappe off the Chiefs practice squad and placed him on their active roster.
The move isn’t all that surprising considering the severity of the injury to Watson. However, will the Browns name him the starter going forward?
In response to the Browns’ move, the Chiefs have signed Quarterback Chris Oladokun to their practice squad. Bailey had been running the Chiefs scout team in practice. That duty now falls on Oladokun as he makes another return to the Chiefs.
In other news, Head Coach Andy Reid told the media yesterday that Wide Receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster would not play Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders. Two weeks remain before the trade deadline; it’s unknown if the Chiefs will make a deal, but that might be hard to accomplish.
General Manager Brett Veach might have difficulty finding a willing trade partner as the only unbeaten (6-0) team in the NFL.
