Chiefs Will Be Down Another Wide Receiver

It’s Raiders week, and we already have a big headline. On Monday, Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid told reporters that Wide Receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster will not play Sunday in Las Vegas.

When Kansas City Chiefs Receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster was added to the injury last week, fans have seen this movie a few times in his career. He battled injuries in Kansas City in 2022 but showed up big in Super Bowl LVIII.

With a chance to return to Las Vegas on Sunday to face the Raiders, Andy Reid told reporters that Smith-Schuster aggravated his hamstring injury and will not play this weekend. That means unless there is a trade, the Chiefs will likely elevate Nikko Remigio or Justyn Ross from the practice squad.

This is just another gut check for the Chiefs receivers. Hollywood Brown, Rashee Rice and now JuJu will miss games. Brown could return this season, but Rice will not play until next October. Smith-Schuster was a big part of Sunday’s game plan against the San Francisco 49ers, but he was lost after the first series.

The Chiefs offense continues to struggle, and rightfully so, considering the bodies in the MASH unit in Kansas City.

To his credit, Mahomes has never complained, and at 6-0 on the season, he’s unfazed by the lack of experience he has now at the receiver position. It will be interesting to see if Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Brett Veach swings a trade for a veteran wide receiver, but they could ride that storm another two weeks.
