Chiefs Make Deal for Cam Thomas From Cardinals

With roster cuts set for Tuesday, the Kansas City Chiefs continue to make moves. After signing veteran Wide Receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster Monday morning, they added another edge defender from the Arizona Cardinals in a late-night trade.

Heading into the cuts, the Chiefs had hoped they could add a veteran wide receiver. They did that by bringing back 2022 Super Bowl performer JuJu Smith-Schuster. However, they had been looking to add some pass-rushing help, and they did that by sending a seventh-round pick to the Arizona Cardinals for edge rusher Cam Jones.

The former 2022 third-round draft pick from San Diego State he played in 32 games for the Cardinals in two seasons. In those games, he amassed 39 tackles and three sacks in his first season in Arizona. He’s certainly not coming to Kansas City to be a starter, but the Chiefs have very little depth at the edge position, and they needed someone with more game experience.

Thomas’s agent is Chris Cabot, who represents Patrick Mahomes, so the Chiefs had an advantage in swinging a deal with the Cardinals. The Chiefs will have two years control on Thomas who won’t be eliogible for free agency until the concusion of the 2025 season.

At this hour, the Chiefs have already made several roster cuts, but the addition of Smith-Schuster and now Thomas, will alter the initial cuts due at 3:00 CST on Tuesday.
