Chiefs New Trio Already in Sync

In watching Game Three of the Dallas Mavericks Western Conference Championship, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Hollywood Brown were front row rooting on their favorite NBA team. In watching them together, I am amazed at how quickly the three amigos already have an undeniable chemistry.

It’s no secret that Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are passionate sports enthusiasts. Their frequent appearances at various sporting events, where they enjoy themselves unabashedly, testify to their love for sports.

During the Sunday night NBA game in Dallas, Mahomes and Kelce were joined by Texas native Hollywood Brown as they sat in the front row, engrossed in the Dallas Mavericks’ victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Their lively interactions with the crowd and each other showcased their love for the game and highlighted their strong bond.

Brown signed with the Chiefs in early March. Since then, he’s been the central fixture beside Mahomes at all his workouts. Further, Brown has taken Rahsee Rice under his wing to ensure the talented receiver stays on the right side.

Still, watching Mahomes, Kelce, and Brown before they play a single regular-season NFL game illuminates how much we can read into their early relationship.

From all accounts, I’ve been told that Brown feels very much at home with the Chiefs. After a difficult beginning in Baltimore, to orchestrate a trade to the Arizona Cardinals, he quickly signed with the Chiefs in free agency when it was his decision as to where he wanted to continue his NFL dreams.

He aimed to find a place to show off his talents and win a Super Bowl. He knew there was only one place where this could happen, and that was with Mahomes and Andy Reid.

Chiefs fans might not see what Brown can do for this team until the games begin, but you can already tell he’s a veteran presence this football team needs in the expansive receiver room. Generally, when you add a player like Brown, you get a leader with average talent.

Brown is not that.

He has superior speed, incredible route-running abilities, and a knack for finding open spaces. Even Mahomes admitted that he could return to his down-the-field gunslinging days with Brown.

Then, there is the older man of the trio. Travis Kelce is entering his 12th NFL season, and though he’s taken more time this off-season to rest his body and spend time with his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, he continues to work out and keep his mind right.

Kelce is a rare combination of athletes who understand that you can’t slack off as you get older if you want to maintain specific excellence on the field. Now, with Brown, and hopefully Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy contributing simultaneously, Kelce doesn’t have to make every play.

The Chiefs’ new trio resembles Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, and Emmitt Smith during the Cowboys’ Super Bowl run in the 1990s; they were the best at their positions and won three of the four games they played from 1993 to 1997.

Kansas City is on a similar path to greatness, having won three of the last five Super Bowls. Their quest to three-peat began in early March when they made a trio of moves: re-signing Drue Tranquill and Chris Jones and adding Hollywood Brown via free agency.

We are still in the OTA stage, and the Chiefs are doing everything to keep the fans’ expectations high for the coming season.

Yet, if you want an early sign of their potential success, you can see it when Mahomes, Kelce, and Brown engage away from the game.
