Chiefs Bring Back Clyde Edwards-Helaire

The Chiefs Kingdom was on fire this morning with the news free agent Running Back, JK Dobbins was visiting the team today. It would appear that visit didn’t go well and Kansas City re-signed their former top draft pick to a one-year deal.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire hasn’t exactly been the player the Chiefs hoped when he was drafted four years ago. However, he persevered and stuck with it enough to make it on the field for Super Bowl LVIII. With a pair of rings, and his familiarity with Kansas City, he came to terms on a one-year deal.

Earlier in the day the Kansas City Chiefs met with former Baltimore Ravens Running Back, DK Dobbins. The often injured running back was medically cleared to resume football duties last month. However, it appears in signing Edwards-Helaire, Kansas City felt the medical issues prohibited them from making a free agent offer.

Now it’s still possible the Chiefs sign Dobbins to complement Edwards-Helaire and Isiah Pacheco. Still, the decision to give CEH another year is a bit perplexing. Now if there’s a chance he can regain the form he had his rookie season prior to the injury he suffered against the New Orleans Saints, then I’m all in favor of the move.

If not, I don’t see the need with a heavy dose of running back prospects that will be available in the NFL Draft, why they made this move?

Then again, having insurance at the running back position is sound business. Either way it’s unlikely he signed for much more than the NFL veteran minimum.
