With so much focus on the future of Kansas City Chiefs Cornerback L’Jarius Sneed and Defensive Tackle Chris Jones, General Manager Brett Veach pushed forward and signed one of the team’s Glue Guys on defense.
With Free Agency on the horizon next week, the Kansas City Chiefs re-signed one of their key defensive players. A year ago, former Los Angeles Chargers LInebacker Drue Tranquill was searching for a new team. After receiving a text from Head Coach Andy Reid that sealed the deal, he signed a one-year deal with the Charger’s division rival.
After a brilliant season in Kansas City, he was rewarded with a three-year, $19 million contract, including $12 Million in guarantees. Outside of retaining L’Jarius Sneed and Chris Jones, getting Tranquill under contract was a high priority for the Chiefs.
Tranquill was a key defender for the Chiefs this past season. He can play all three linebacker positions, and his versatility was vital when Linebacker Nick Bolton was lost for a good portion of the season. Clearly, the Chargers didn’t value his services or talents, but Tranquill made an impression early in training camp.
Now he gets a long-term contract!
