Looking to Free Agency Chiefs Decide Future of Two Players

Over the last two post-seasons, Marquez Valdes-Scantling has been the team’s best clutch wide receiver. However, he won’t get a chance for a third season in Kansas City. Per the report, the Chiefs intend to cut him when the new league year begins next month. They’ve also decided to use their franchise tag on one of their top defenders.

Kansas City Chiefs Wide Receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling played a vital part in the team’s back-to-back Super Bowl Titles. He did so despite struggling in the regular season. However, post-season MVS was all nails. Yet, to save $12 Million in cap space, the Chiefs intend to cut the wide receiver.

The decision to release MVS could be a precursor to Brett Veach’s pursuit of a top-shelf wide receiver. It also puts into question what he’ll do with Skyy Moore, Kadarius Toney who both struggled last season. Veach indicated Tuesday that he’d like to retain Super Bowl Hero, Mecole Hardman.

Releasing MVS does come with some risks. Yes, he struggled at times, but he made plays when they mattered most, and Kansas City has to be aggressive in finding someone that fits the Chiefs scheme under Patrick Mahomes.

With a strong list of wide receivers that might be available at the start of free agency, it’s likely Veach lands one or two of them in Kansas City.

In other Chiefs news, according to Jordan Schultz at Bleacher Report, Kansas City has officially placed the Franchise Tag on Cornerback L’Jarius Sneed. With that decision comes a $19 Million cap hit for Kansas City.
