The Chiefs arrived back in Kansas City late Sunday night, and that flight home included wide receiver Tyquan Thornton, who dislocated his ankle in Sunday’s 30-27 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. After tests Monday, the news is promising he might return this season.

If you watched the devastating injury Kansas City Chiefs Wide Receiver Tyquan Thornton suffered against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, you probably had the same reaction as me: he was done for the year. However, tests revealed today that he could return late this season.
Thornton was already having a career day, setting a personal best for receiving yards and touchdowns against the Raiders. However, the NFL Gods weren’t as kind. After suffering a gruesome dislocated ankle, which was on full display on the broadcast for everyone to see, the Chiefs medical staff acted quickly and put the ankle back in place on the field.
From there, he left on a stretcher with his ankle wrapped in a leg brace and boarded the team charter. @RapSheet updated Chiefs fans a few moments ago to say Thornton will have surgery soon to stabilize the ankle so he can begin rehab.
🚨 TYQUAN THORNTON TIMELINE UPDATE

📳 @RapSheet
Following extensive testing today on his dislocated left ankle, WR Tyquan Thornton is expected to miss 12 to 16 weeks!
Thornton will undergo surgery within the week, keeping the door open for a potential late-season or playoff… https://t.co/4IYPHXMxuh
The standard timeline is 12-16 weeks, but the ankle was stabilized so quickly that it’s doubtful the damage was too extensive, leaving hope for a return in late December or the postseason. Either way this was the best possible scenario the team could have received on Thornton.
In the meantime, the Chiefs are working on signing Tyreek Hill, and a deal with Kansas City, should that be his destination, could be done in the next couple of days.
Head Coach Andy Reid already gave the team the week off, but if they sign Hill, he’ll get right to work with the Chiefs’ training staff to set a potential return date. If he signs soon, he could be activated for KC’s road matchup in Denver on November 1st.
Rashee Rice, who tweaked his hamstring early in the Raiders’ win, should be good to go when Kansas City plays the Los Angeles Chargers in two weeks.
Stay tuned to Chiefs Blitz for the latest on Tyreek Hill.
