The Kansas City Chiefs get a chance Sunday at noon to take their brand of 2026 football on the road for the first of nine times this year. The Miami Dolphins are 0-2 and will be making their regular-season home opener in front of 20,000 Chiefs fans. This should be an easy game for KC, but on any given Sunday, anything can happen in the NFL.
The Kansas City Chiefs have been impressive in winning back-to-back home games against the Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts. Later today, they’ll face a struggling Miami Dolphins team that is 0-2 on the season and lacks experience up and down the roster.
As one of the youngest teams in the NFL, they haven’t found their footing in two road games. However, they’ll finally play at home today, and though they are double-digit underdogs to the Chiefs, they are still an NFL team that shouldn’t be taken lightly.
This game offers a chance for the Dolphins’ 2026 reclamation project to unfold in front of the home crowd. With over $100 million committed to players not on the roster, those who remain or were added in the last six months should be motivated to put on a good showing at home.
The Chiefs, though, won’t attack this game with any less vigor than they did in week one or two. Yes, they won with two different styles, and on Sunday they’ll need to add one more style to their repertoire.
Defeating a team that, on paper, is vastly superior to you.
That’s easier said than done in the NFL, where any team can catch fire within a game, and despite the enormous disparity in talent, don’t fool yourself; the Chiefs need to be focused, alert, and play solid football until the outcome is in doubt.
On the positive side, should the Chiefs get out to a hot start, then the backups can get some vastly important playing time. With another road game at Las Vegas next Sunday, the chance to play a deeper portion of the roster, before the early bye week, will pay dividends when the schedule turns brutal in October and November.
The Dolphins have not looked good, and there’s good reason. They don’t have the talent or experience yet. Legitimate Sunday winner. What they do have is youth, and if they play together, this could be a close fourth-quarter game.
Head Coach Andy Reid knows all too well that despite the Dolphins’ 0-2 start, his message to his players this week was not to let up and keep the foot on the accelerator.
Notoriously, the Chiefs have not played well in the state of Florida, and Miami isn’t an exception to that road-game karma. Thus, a sharp first half of crisp, clean, mistake-free football is exactly what needs to happen later today.
However, they did defeat Miami in Germany three years ago and the Dolphins in the postseason in Kansas City, but that team is vastly different from the one they’ll face today.
