The Kansas City Chiefs are always searching for veteran help. On Tuesday, reports say they’ve added a former pass rusher who helped the team win Super Bowl LIV. How will his addition help the defense?
Per Adam Schefter at ESPN, the Kansas City Chiefs are bringing back defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah on a one-year deal. No terms were disclosed, but after a disappointing 2025 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he likely signed for the veteran minimum.
Kansas City attempted to re-sign him two years ago, but he chose to go back to the Dolphins. He was a stalwart on the Chiefs’ defense during their Super Bowl run in 2019, and he cashed that performance into a mega free agent deal with the Miami Dolphins.
He had some productive years with the AFC East team, but the 33-year-old defender only notched a partial sack last season, and the Chiefs probably were looking for a depth piece to offset injuries and bring a veteran presence to the defense.
The Chiefs are certainly going to be a youthful bunch on defense, and as a true defensive end, he could get productive snaps for defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.
With the sudden emergence of former first-round defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah, who has been impressive in camp, the Chiefs have more options on defense.
After three years of dealing with injuries, he looks like a first-round talent. However, he’s yet to prove he can make plays at the NFL level, and bringing back Ogbah was a good move for the Chiefs.
The Chiefs were back on the practice field today, as they prep for their first preseason game Saturday at Arrowhead against the Los Angeles Rams.
