Chiefs Blitz Columnist Andrew Walsh chatted with former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Chad Henne for a one-on-one interview about his time in KC and what makes Patrick Mahomes so special as a player and person.
Chiefs Blitz: When You Arrived in the NFL, What Was the Hardest Transition?
Chad Henne: Mostly learning the new verbiage of the offense and the speed of the game. Everything happens faster, and your decision-making has to be spot on. Along with these, defensive recognition. NFL defenses disguise all the time, and I was trying to get tells from different people or defensive alignment.
CB: You had a long, impressive run in the NFL. What was your Favorite Moment?
CH: Favorite moment (s) were our Super Bowl victories and when I got a chance to get in two games in the playoffs with the Chiefs. You dream of these things as a kid, and to have it come true was something I will always cherish.
CB: What was your reaction when you read Patrick’s Tweet, Henne-Thing is Possible?”
CH: Haha, at the time I probably didn’t have Twitter, but I heard about it. It was a pretty cool slogan and a great moment when our roles changed. Patrick was one of the best teammates, and I appreciate him cheering for me, and we always had each other’s back.
CB: Tell us one thing Chiefs Fans Don’t Know About Patrick Mahomes?
CH: Not sure if there is anything fans don’t know about him. I would say, being around him for 5 years, he practices just as if it were a game. He strives for perfection and competes at the highest level anytime he is on the field. (Practice, walk-through, meetings, games, etc.)
CB: If Andy Reid asked you to coach, would that be something you would consider?
CH: When I told Coach I was retiring, he had mentioned coaching. Honestly, I would love to coach with him, but I’ve missed a lot of my kids’ activities and being with them, so I felt it wasn’t the right time. There will be a time, though, that I want to get back in the NFL and coach, but for now, I am just helping out at High School and enjoying time with family.
