Worthy and Allen Avoid Serious Injuries

Earlier in the day, the Chiefs nation went into panic mode when wide receivers Xavier Worthy and Cyrus Allen were taken off the field. However, after medical tests, it appears that Kansas City dodged a significant bullet now that it’s been revealed both potential starters should be back soon.

When Wide Receiver Cyrus Allen needed the aid of two trainers and a cart ride up the hill, things didn’t look good for the Chiefs’ most consistent offensive training camp performer. He’s been the star of the offense thus far, and he and Quarterback Patrick Mahomes have found a nice chemistry together.

Still, when he pulled his jersey over his head and could not bear any weight on his leg, everyone feared the worst. However, ESPN’s Adam Schefter put out a tweet that Allen suffered a bone bruise after colliding with cornerback Kaiir Elam on a special teams drill.

As for Worthy, he re-injured his shoulder again after missing significant time last season with the same issue, and fans feared the worst. However, thankfully, he should be ok and avoid any significant time away from the practice field.

It’s possible that both Worthy and Allen will be the team’s starting wide receivers on opening day. Rashee Rice has struggled at the onset of camp; despite being medically cleared to practice, he hasn’t looked sharp. Thus, Worthy, Allen, and Tyquan Thornton are the primary weapons until Rice catches up.

As I stated in my earlier article on Saturday (Chiefs Should Acquire a Veteran WR), once the injuries occurred, the Kansas City Chiefs could use a veteran wide receiver to add to the mix. Keenan Allen, at 34, still has some juice left, and former Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots receiver Stephon Diggs remains a free agent.

One thing we do know is that former Chiefs Tyreek Hill might be months away from being able to practice, so that’s not an option for Kansas City.

Either way, the Chiefs avoided a massive catastrophe, and with their first preseason game set for two weeks from today, they have plenty of time to recover.
