Pacheco Has MCL Strain

The NFL Network reported on Tuesday that Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco, who was injured late in the team’s 28-7 win over the Commanders, has an MCL sprain. So, how long will the Chiefs’ leading rusher be out?

In the final offensive series of the night, Kansas City Chiefs Running Back Isaih Pacheco hobbled off the field and went directly to the team’s medical staff. After checking him out, he bounced up and appeared to be alright.

However, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network indicated that the Chiefs running back has an MCL sprain and he’s week to week. That means Pacheco will likely miss this Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills.

With the trade deadline just one week away, the Chiefs will have to get a complete handle on his injury this week. Kansas City could sit him and activate Elijah Mitchell, who has been a healthy scratch this season.

It appears the Chiefs aren’t ready to give Brashard Smith a bigger workload, and this could spur trade options for General Manager Brett Veach.

If he wants to hit a home run at the position, he could deal for disgruntled New York Jets running back Breece Hall. The former Wichita, Kansas, native and Iowa State standout played his best game of the season in the team’s first win of the season at Cincinnati on Sunday.

However, the Jets declined his player option, so that means he’s a free agent in 2026. If Kansas City swings a trade for Hall, it might be with a contract extension.

As for Mitchell, we really don’t know what he can do on the field. He had a few snaps in the preseason, but if they feel he’s the next man up, he should be well rested. The Chiefs wouldn’t be wise to increase Kareem Hunt’s workload. He’s turned into a short-yardage and goal-line super player, and adding reps could thwart that aspect of his game.
