Chiefs Make it Official Kareem Hunt Added to the 53

After a week in Kansas City, the Chiefs felt comfortable adding veteran Running Back Kareem Hunt to the 53-man roster. They now have two experienced runners behind rookie Carson Steele.

Despite rookie Carson Steele’s terrific debut as the Chiefs starter Sunday night in Atlanta, Head Coach Andy Reid elevated Kareem Hunt to the active roster. To make room for their new back, the team waived Keaontay Ingram, whom they hope to add to their practice squad on Wednesday.

Hunt will likely debut in a Chiefs uniform Sunday in Los Angeles. The Chargers are dealing with multiple injuries, and this might be an excellent game to get some reps for Hunt. Further, the Chiefs could use another back to catch the ball out of the backfield.

For those who remember Hunt’s time in Kansas City, they featured him often in the passing game. Though Samaje Perine can do similar things within the offense, they’ve used him primarily as a running back.

Either way the Chiefs have three options at running back, who offer different styles and components to offense. I’m sure Reid felt comfortable that Hunt was ready, and I don’t think he would have activated him to the 53-man roster, if he wasn’t going to get him in the mix.

It’s been a long time since Hunt was in a Chiefs uniform, and I’m sure he’ll have some nerves. Either way, the past is gone, and he has a second chance with Kansas City, which could benefit both the player and the team.
