The Kansas City Chiefs will face the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII in two weeks, but if they are going to win that game, they’ll be without their best pass rusher.
According to Jordan Schultz at Bleacher Report, Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Charles Omenihu tore his ACL in the team’s 17-10 AFC Championship game. This is a significant loss for Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuola and his game plan in the Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers.
Omenihu missed the team’s first six games this season, serving an NFL suspension. It took a few weeks to regain his footing, but he was a beast. He had a massive strip sack on Sunday against Lamar Jackson.
The Chiefs will likely use Mike Danna in passing situations, and they might use Chris Jones on the defensive end. Thankfully, George Karlaftis has been sensational in the postseason. The excellent news is that Omenihu didn’t play in the second half, and the Chiefs’ defense was just as effective with him in the lineup. They could also use first-round pick Felix Anudike-Uzomah, who has yet to be active during the postseason.
If the Chiefs decide to add a pass rusher, it’s possible the team signs free agent pass rusher, Frank Clark.
