Bradden Returns to Chiefs Coaching Staff

The Kansas City Chiefs are enhancing their coaching staff. After naming a running backs coach yesterday, they are also bringing back a coach who has won three Super Bowls to lead the defense.

Head Coach Andy Reid had a busy 24 hours. He first hired DeMarco Murray, who was Oklahoma’s Running Backs Coach, to fill the same role with the Chiefs. Additionally, one of the top coaches from Reid’s tenure is returning to assist the defense. The team is set to bring back Terry Bradden, a three-time Super Bowl-winning defensive line coach, to the staff.

The former Chiefs coach accepted a position at the University of Nebraska, but when Andy Reid reached out, Bradden, who has three Super Bowl rings with Kansas City, eagerly accepted the chance to return home.

He will take on the role of assistant defensive line coach under Joe Cullen. This addition brings valuable experience to Steve Spagnuolo’s coaching staff. As Cullen interviews for NFL defensive coordinator positions, it is beneficial to have coaches who are already familiar with Kansas City’s defensive schemes.

Bradden follows Reid’s trend of making changes to his coaching staff. The Chiefs even tried to retain Bradden before he accepted the head coaching position at Nebraska, and his departure was clearly felt last season as the Chiefs’ defensive line struggled. Like Eric Bieniemy, Bradden holds his players accountable and expects nothing less than maximum effort.

This is another solid move by Reid to address deficiencies in his coaching staff.
