It took some time, but the Kansas City Chiefs made their roster cuts. Though there were a few surprises, none too earth-shattering, they did carry a lot of wide receivers. Here is the breakdown.

The Kansas City Chiefs certainly didn’t want to duplicate the scrambling they did a year ago when so many wide receivers and tight ends were injured. In all, the two offensive groups kept 11 and placed three players on injured reserve.

53-Man Roster:
Quarterback (2) Patrick Mahomes, Gardner Minshew
Running Back (4) Kareem Hunt, Elijah Mitchel, Isiah Pacheco, Brashard Smith
Wide Receiver (8) Hollywood Brown Jason Brownlee Nikko Remigio Rashee Rice Jalen Royals JuJu Smith-Schuster Tyquan Thornton Xavier Worthy
Tight End (3) Noah Gray, Travis Kelce, Jared Wiley
Offensive Line (9) Mike Caliendo, Creed Humphrey, Jaylon Moore, Wanya Morris, Hunter Nourzad, Jawaan Taylor, Josh Simmons, Trey Smith, Kingsley Suamataia
Defensive Line (9) Mike Danna, Ashton Gillotte, Malik Herring, Chris Jones, George Karlaftis, Derrick Nnadi, Omarr Norman-Lott, Charles Omenihu, Jerry Tillery

Defensive Back (9) Chamarri Conner, Bryan Cook, Kristian Fulton, Jaden Hicks, Trent McDuffie, Chris Roland-Wallace, Jaylen Watson, Joshua Williams, Nohl Williams

In summary, Mike Pennel will likely be added to the roster before week one, and Malik Herring might be the odd man out. Safety Mike Edwards is expected to be placed on the practice squad. The most significant cut was Left Tackle Esa Pole, and I was surprised they kept four running backs.
It’s also likely that Tight End Robert Tonyan is added to the roster. For now, he’s likely headed to the practice squad.
On Wednesday, the Chiefs are expected to re-sign some of their released players to their 16-man practice squad.

One Response
Will they regret waiving Esa Pole and keeping Wanya Morris. In a year, Morris will be gone (based on performance) and Pole will be starting for the Bengals….this will come back to bite them…
