2 Days to Camp: Mahomes is the GOAT!

On Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs players arrived in St. Joe to start their month-long training camp. Motivated by a tough Super Bowl loss, the team’s desire to bounce back has never been stronger. Luckily, they have the GOAT leading the franchise and guiding them toward even greater accomplishments.

The debate between Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady is pointless. Brady won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots and earned one more in Tampa with the Bucs. In his early years, Brady was at best an average quarterback. The Patriots’ first four Super Bowls were won primarily due to their dominant defense.

After a ten-year gap, he won three more. The first two were mainly against Peyton Manning, and the last was against Mahomes.

For Patrick Mahomes, in the AFC, he had to face Brady, Andrew Luck, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, and Justin Herbert. On the NFC side, he defeated Vinny, Jimmy Garoppolo, Jalen Hurts, and Brock Purdy. His losses came to Hurts and the Brady mentioned above.

The best quarterbacks Tom Brady faced in his Super Bowl wins, besides Mahomes, were Eli Manning, whom he played against twice. He also lost to Nick Foles.

The case for the GOAT argument hinges on the level of competition Mahomes faced during his career, which is much higher and more challenging than any stretch Brady experienced in the NFL. Setting aside Mahomes’ loss in Super Bowl LV,

Mahomes has accepted the challenges he’s faced, but like Brady, he’s also won Super Bowls with lopsided rosters; however, his path was much more difficult.

Heading into 2025, Mahomes has his eyes on the Super Bowl prize. Every player who spoke in the off-season about Mahomes said he’s in a different zone right now – in other words, watch out!

I’ve often talked about the GOAT numbers Mahomes has achieved since he became a starter in 2018. From his first game to his last in a Chiefs uniform, he has adapted, adjusted, struggled at times, and faced major changes to his offensive staff.

Yet, he remains the most celebrated and consistent quarterback in the league today.

For those of us who admire his willingness to carry the Chiefs Kingdom and the men that make up the Chiefs roster, he’s undoubtedly one of a kind.

He was very candid after the 2018 playoff win against the Colts when he said he felt the weight of the franchise during that game. Since then, no NFL quarterback has more postseason wins, touchdowns, yardage, MVP titles, and Super Bowl rings.

Arguably, Mahomes is unmatched in this era of NFL football, but some consider Brady the greatest of all time. Mahomes calls his friend the GOAT, yet no other NFL quarterback can rival Brady for the NFL knighthood like Mahomes.

So, if you notice an extra bounce in his step, a more refined Dad bod, more chances down the field, and an equal number of wins this season compared to last with a weaker roster, consider yourself part of a lucky group of fans getting to watch the GOAT in his prime.
