Updated: 2:55 CST – In a surprise announcement, the Dallas District Attorney’s office has executed a plea agreement with Kansas City Chiefs Wide Receiver Rashee Rice for his off-the-field incident. Details of the deal include probation, jail time, and restitution to the other victims of the crash.

Though nobody saw this deal coming, the Dallas District Attorney and representatives for Rashee Rice decided it was in their best interest to settle this entire case in one swoop.
For his speeding ticket and leaving the scene of the accident, Rice received five years’ probation (suspended), 30 days of jail time, and $115,481.91 for out-of-pocket medical costs before his plea agreement.
Furthermore, Rashee Rice settled with one of the car crash victims for $ 1,080,000.00. It’s not known if the suit filed against Rice includes all victims, but records indicate this is the sum Rice’s attorney negotiated.
The jail time can be served at any point in the five-year probationary period. It is not known if it has to occur consecutively. After this was posted, both the district attorney and Rice, through his attorney, made statements.
“I am profoundly sorry for the physical damages to person and property,” Rice said in the statement. “I fully apologize for the harm I caused to innocent drivers and their families.”
Dallas District John Creozot stated, “We are extremely fortunate that no lives were lost that day, and Mr. Rice is fortunate to have walked away unharmed. We hope he takes this as an opportunity to mature and leads by example moving forward. I wish him the best in making safer choices.”
The matter is now closed, but the NFL, having resolved the legal matter, will likely suspend Rice at some point in the future. Sources have informed ChiefsBlitz.com that an announcement is likely to be forthcoming within the next two weeks as to the number of games Rice will miss this season.
For Rice, he can now prepare for training camp, and from all accounts, he should consider himself fortunate that they were able to work out a plea deal before this season. Now he can focus on the task at hand and await his final punishment from the league.
