Chiefs Draft Edge Rusher Ashton Gillotte in Round Three

With the pick obtained with the L’Jarius Sneed trade last year, the Kansas City Chiefs continue the trend to defense by selecting pass rusher Ashton Gillotte at the top of the third round.

Kansas City Chiefs’ Defensive Coordinator had to be happy with the Chiefs’ draft on Friday night. After taking Omarr Norman-Lott in round two, they kept the defensive train going by adding Louisville Edge Rusher Ashton Gillotte in the third round.

Over three seasons with the Cardinals, he was a fiery defender who amassed 26.5 sacks and recorded an impressive 40 tackles for a loss. The Chiefs were looking to add an edge rusher, but they were very fortunate; Gillotte was still available in the third round.

As edge rushers began to fall off the draft board in the second round, the Chiefs used the pick they received for former Cornerback L’Jarius Sneed last season.

Gillotte is another high-character guy with a relentless motor. The Chiefs spent a lot of time with Gillote in Zoom meetings. However, he already had a connection to the team. Not only was his Ohio Uncle a big Chiefs fan, but he spent the off-season working with Chiefs pass rusher George Karlaftis.

In those workouts, he gained a deeper understanding of the organization and was very appreciative that the Chiefs had selected him.

Gillotte will be in the rotation of pass rushers with Mike Danna, Charles Omenihu, Chris Jones, and Karlaftis. Though there were other higher-rated pass rushers on the board, it was doubtful Gillotte would have been available as the third round unfolded.
