One More Rodeo for Chiefs Travis Kelce?

Kansas City Chiefs Tight End Travis Kelce has told his head coach and general manager that he’s excited about playing again. So, will he return in 2025?

Head Coach Andy Reid and General Manager Brett Veach spoke to the media at the NFL Combine on Tuesday, and both indicated that Tight End Travis Kelce plans to play in 2025. The Chiefs’ GM indicated there was no timetable on his final decision, and the Chiefs would carry his entire $19M cap hit this season.

His head coach indicated that he told his future hall-of-fame tight end to go on vacation, decompress, and we’ll talk later. Kelce has been doing just that, spending time with his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, and taking a break from his New Heights Podcast.

Still, though Kelce, who will likely announce his decision on his next show with his brother Jason Kelce, it’s not officially official. Yet, it sounds like he’s returning for another season in Kansas City.

If Kelce returns, don’t be surprised if his role is reduced somewhat and Noah Gray gets first-team reps. Though Kelce had a long layover between the Christmas Day game and the divisional round of the playoffs, he might not get the identical rest next season.

The AFC West will be far more competitive in 2025, and the battle for the AFC’s top seed will include several teams. Then again, Kelce is playing with one of the all-time greats in the quarterback position. I’m sure Patrick Mahomes will be happy his security blanket is returning one more season.

I’m confident Kelce’s decision to return heavily influenced the Chiefs’ failure to play a competitive game overall in Super Bowl LIX. Going out with an embarrassing loss is not the chapter in which Kelce wants to ride off into the Sunset.
