Steven Nelson Returns to the Chiefs

After working out with the team on Monday, the Kansas City Chiefs have signed veteran cornerback Steven Nelson to their practice squad. With two more injuries to the cornerback room on Sunday, he’ll add some depth once he’s in football shape.

Over the Summer, veteran cornerback Steven Nelson retired from the NFL. Yet, he kept in shape, hoping to play for a contender late in the season. As he sat back and waited for his opportunity, the only team to reach out to him was the New York Jets.

That was until Saturday when the Chiefs scheduled a visit for Monday morning. The two sides had been in touch, and now that he’s ready to return to the NFL, his addition provides veteran depth to the Chiefs.

Joshua Williams and Keith Traylor were injured Sunday night in the Chiefs’ 19-17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, but Head Coach Andy Reid did not address any injuries from their AFC West-clinching victory.

Nelson will likely need a few weeks to get into football shape, but playing cornerback is not as tricky as DJ Humphries had to make playing left tackle.

In other news, Chiefs Blitz has learned that the team reached out to left tackle Donovan Smith about a possible return to the roster once it learns the severity of Humphries’ hamstring injury.
