Before their Monday Night game versus the Tampa Bay Bucs, the Kansas City Chiefs elevated two players to the active roster. One on offense the other on the defensive side of the ball.
With kickoff two hours away, the Kansas City Chiefs made a couple of roster elevations for their game against the Tampa Bay Bucs. Wide Receiver Justyn Ross and Cornerback Nic Jones received the promotions.
Ross has been a heavy practice squad participant the last two seasons, but he’s had a few games in the NFL. With injuries to JuJu Smith-Schuster and tight ends Jared Wiley and Jody Fortson, the roster designation for Ross makes sense.
Though he hasn’t made an impact in the passing game, he is an excellent blocker. He could be used in various ways that don’t include pass catching, including special teams. The Chiefs have DeAndre Hopkins on the roster, who will make his home debut.
Cornerback Nic Jones will be activated on the defensive side. The Chiefs are rumored to be looking for a cornerback before Tuesday’s trade deadline, but Jones, who was a surprise cut from the 53-man roster, the team feels he can contribute.
With Jaylen Watson’s injury, activating Jones makes sense unless they made a trade for a cornerback. Last season, he was injured for much of the year, but he was a relatively high draft pick for the Chiefs, so he gets another chance with KC.
