Early Friday morning NFL Insider Field Yates reported the Kansas City Chiefs made a salary adjustment to Right Tackles Jawaan Taylor. Could GM Brett Veach be cooking up another trade for his roster?
With less than 12 days until the NFL trade deadline, the Kansas City Chiefs already added Veteran Receiver, DeAndre Hopkins. As part of that deal the Titans agreed to pay have of his remaining salary. That left the Chiefs with about $2.7M in cap space.
Now comes the news that veteran Right Tackle, Jawaan Taylor has converted part of his 2024 salary into a signing bonus. The move creates an additional $5.4M in cap space for the Chiefs. Now the Chiefs have roughly $8.1M in cap freedom to perhaps make another deal.
It’s doubtful the Chiefs will add another wide receiver, but they could be hunting for a veteran cornerback. Two options could include free agent Xavier Howard, or Carolina Panthers Corner, Jaycee Horn, the son of former Chiefs receiver, Joe Horn.
Either way it’s been speculated even after the Hopkins move, Veach wasn’t done tweaking his roster for the Super Bowl run ahead. The loss of Jaylen Watson who was ascending into an All Pro corner, has left the Chiefs younger at the position. Now they have the talent and belief their baby boomers can indeed make the jump to productive defender. Yet, adding another corner also makes sense.
Brett Veach has never been shy about being aggressive and with his team sitting 6-0 on the season with a comfortable lead among AFC Contenders, he can afford to choose wisely about adding any player to the roster.
Still, adding a savvy cornerback to a pass happy conference, makes a lot of sense for the Chiefs.
