The Kansas City Chiefs received good news and bad news regarding Rashee Rice, their injured wide receiver. Though he won’t play again this season, his injury was the best-case scenario for making a full recovery.
With a small hope he could return this season, the Kansas City Chiefs learned that star receiver Rashee Rice will not return in 2024. Bleacher Report Insider @JordanSchultz, broke the news Tuesday afternoon that Rice had successful surgery to repair is LCL and a partially torn hamstring tendon.
The news could have been a lot worse, and he could have torn his ACL, which would have delayed his return to the Chiefs until next October or November. Now he still faces a possible suspension surrounding his pending legal matters that will be resolved next spring.
Until then, the Kansas City Chiefs are fortunate that they brought back JuJu Smith-Schuster. He had a break out game Monday night against the New Orleans Saints. He was Rice-esque grabbing seven passes from Patrick Mahomes for 130 receiving yards.
The Chiefs have the quarterback and players to sustain the loss of Rice, and clearly, their offense was humming Monday night. Then again, the margin for error is now slim. Though Hollywood Brown will be back in late December, that’s a long time from now.
In the interim, Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Brett Veach could trade for another wide receiver. Though that might be in the teams best interest, he has to find a suitable partner willing to help the Chiefs. That’s going to be problamtic, unless the Chiefs overpay for a one-year rental.
Further, in 2025 the only receivers who will be under contract are Skyy Moore, Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy. There is no guarantee Smith-Schuster or Hollywood would return next season. That means Veach has to have an eye on the future.
Veach has already had conversations with numerous teams, and now it’s about the cost of any move to add a talented receicer to the roster.
