Fortson Gets Another Chance with the Chiefs

When the Kansas City Chiefs placed Wide Receiver Rashee Rice on injured reserve Thursday, they had to elevate someone from their practice squad instead of a wide receiver. An old friend will make his return to the team on Monday Night.

With the New Orleans Saints heading to Arrowhead Monday Night, the Kansas City Chiefs had 51 active players on the roster. One was created Thursday when the team placed Rashee Rice on injured reserve.

One thought the Chiefs would elevate Nikko Remigio or Justyn Ross to the active roster. Instead, they promoted Tight End Jody Fortson to the team, and he could play Monday against the Saints.

Fortson has a long history with the Chiefs, and though some of it was good and inspiring, the undrafted free agent made the most of his time on the field. However, his list of injuries derailed any chance for a constant stay on the roster.

In his return to Kansas City, Forston hopes to change that trend. If he’s healthy, he offers a big-time target for Quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Forston was one of the most popular players in recent years, and now he gets another chance to show off his playmaking abilities.

The Chiefs might still promote Remigio or Ross before the game on Monday. Back-up Mecole Hardman is suffering from a knee injury and has been limited all week in practice.
