With the season opener in six days against the Baltimore Ravens, the Kansas City Chiefs gave an update on the availability of their top free-agent signee in the offseason for Thursday Night.
On the first snap of his debut game in a Kansas City Chiefs uniform, free agent signee Wide Receiver Hollywood Brown got hurt. As he lay on the ground in pain, everyone had hoped it was nothing serious. Unfortunately, it turned out to be bad enough that he won’t play in the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens.
In speaking to the media on Friday, Head Coach Andy Reid made it clear that Hollywood Brown, despite making good progress, won’t be active for the Ravens game. The initial timeline for his sternoclavicular injury was four weeks, and though he’s back watching this team practice, he’s unlikely to see the practice field this week.
The Chiefs added JuJu Smith-Schuster on Monday, and they already have speedy receiver Xavier Worthy listed as a starter, so his absence shouldn’t affect the offense. Granted, he’s a valuable piece, but this offense still has Travis Kelce, Rashee Rice, and Patrick Mahomes.
Last year, Mahomes receivers dropped the ball figuratively, but adding Worthy and Brown should correct those issues.
So Brown’s debut in a Chiefs uniform might be pushed back to week two when the Chiefs host the Cincinnati Bengals or a week later for a Sunday Night Football showdown against the Atlanta Falcons.
In other Chiefs news, Andy Reid indicated that it was very likely that both JuJu Smith-Schuster and Samaji Perine would play against the Ravens on Thursday night.
