The NFL Players announced their final 2024 season rankings, and surprisingly, though not shockingly, they voted Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes the fourth-best player in the NFL.
When you’re at the top of your game, everyone wants to bring you down. They are tired of seeing the best at a particular sport keep winning. Eventually, they want another Dog to have his day in the sun, but in the case of the Kansas City Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes, they are jealous he’s not on their team.
You know it’s a joke when Buffalo Bills fans comment that Tyreek Hill (#1) and Lamar Jackson (#3) are ahead of Mahomes. It is crazy talk.
Hey, I’m all for freedom of thought and their respective votes, but Mahomes is entering the 2024 season as a back-to-back Super Champion, and Jackson has won TWO playoff games in his average NFL career, so it does make you scratch your head.
I’m not sure what the criteria for the players’ votes are, but I can tell you that Mahomes doesn’t mind the disrespect being showered over him. The truth is he’s dealt with it for years.
Just this off-season, the Las Vegas mocked him with their Kermit video, and Mahomes responded with just enough words to let the failing franchise know they’ll face them twice this season and to prepare for the payback. The Raiders are a terrible football team with some great players, but they aren’t in the class of the Chiefs.
Let me make this statement abundantly clear regarding the players’ love for Jackson: He will NEVER win a Super Bowl and will likely never reach one. Running quarterbacks do not win in the postseason.
Case in point! In 58 Super Bowls, no running first quarterback has ever held the Lombardi Trophy!
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey landed in the third spot, and honestly, I would not be upset if he was atop the 100 list over Hill and Mahomes was second. Again, Hill is electric, fast, and one of the best playmakers in the NFL.
Yet, he has ONE Super Bowl title as a member of the Chiefs.
I get that NFL fans, players, and those who support the league dislike the Chiefs. It makes sense, but to ignore the greatness of Mahomes and his accomplishments in the NFL over the last six years, you can’t put Jackson ahead of Mahomes in any ranking.
I don’t have Jackson in my Top Ten quarterbacks for the upcoming season. That’s not to say Jackson can’t figure out how to win in the postseason and get the Ravens to the Super Bowl, but nothing I’ve seen to date tells me he can get that done now or in the future.
Baltimore has sold its soul around Jackson’s limitations as a passer and game manager. The Chiefs won a Super Bowl without a true #1 or #2 receiver. They relied heavily on rookie Rashee Rice and veteran Travis Kelce.
The fact that Mahomes won Super Bowl LVIII is a testament to why, with a depleted offensive cast, he defeated Buffalo, Baltimore, and San Francisco on the road.
Honestly, rankings are silly. Yet, this poll is from the players, who are sick of Mahomes beating them. Their rankings fuel the drive to become the first Three-Peat Super Champion.
So, to the rest of the NFL, it’s time to buckle up!
