For the second straight year, Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback and three-time Super Bowl Champion Patrick Mahomes was tabbed as the best player in the league in a pre-announcement to Thursday Night’s ESPY awards.
There’s little doubt that the best quarterback lives in Kansas City. Patrick Mahomes is in a class by himself, and for the second straight season, he’s been awarded that designation once again in a preview of tonight’s ESPY Awards on ESPN.
The Thursday night gala generally makes a few announcements early, but even though the team is up for two more ESPYs in Kansas City, Mahomes is the franchise’s signature piece and the face of the NFL.
If you weren’t convinced, the Chiefs would be featured in seven national games on ESPN, NBC, Amazon, and Netflix. Add that to their prime late game slot on Sundays, which means Kansas City will be the featured game on CBS for many of their exclusive broadcasts.
The reason is simple: Beyond the fact that the Chiefs are attempting to win three Super Bowls in a row, they know Mahomes is ratings gold. The ESPYs remain a prestigious honor despite some overly political moments in the recent past; they touch all sports leagues and fans.
In the end, that’s all that matters.
