The Kansas City Chiefs are returning their Super Bowl LVIII hero for another season. Per Jordan Schultz, Mecole Hardman has agreed to a new one-year contract.

Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Brett Veach has always preached the importance of speed on defense and offense. On Thursday, in what has already become a very crowded wide receiver room, the Chiefs are burning back Super Bowl Hero Mecole Hardman.
Mecole Hardman made two big plays in Super Bowl LVIII, but his last was the game-winner that gave the Chiefs back-to-back Super Bowl titles. With the quest now turned to becoming the first team in the NFL to win three straight Lombardi Trophies and the new kick-off rules, re-signing Hardman makes a lot of sense for Kansas City.

With the addition of Hardman, you would have to think that either Skyy Moore and/or Kadarius Toney have seen their last days in a Chiefs uniform. It’s unlikely Veach re-signed Hardman to be buried in the depth chart. This also could be insurance if Rashee Rice is suspended at some point this season. There has been no trial date or plea agreement for his vehicle incident in Dallas in April.
The additions of Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown and the re-emergence of Nikko Remigio, Justin Watson, and Hardman create an ultra-fast wide receiver group for Quarterback Patrick Mahomes. That doesn’t leave many snaps for Toney, who has been a no-show during OTAs, and Moore, who had a miserable sophomore season in Kansas City.
Then again, if an injury occurs, Kansas City has a plethora of depth at its disposal. By signing Hardman, the Chiefs have ended any speculation they will pursue a higher-profile receiver.
The Chiefs have their last OTA session on Thursday before their mandatory Mini-Camp next week. With this signing, their roster is mainly set heading into the Summer break before training camp begins in late July.
