Multiple reports this afternoon indicate that the Kansas City Chiefs have signed their first-round draft pick, Xavier Worthy.
When the Buffalo Bills allowed the Kansas City Chiefs to swap first-round picks, General Manager Brett Veach quickly drafted Texas Wide Receiver Xavier Worthy. After the shock of the trade from the Bills Mafia, the Chiefs had their top receiver on the board in the fold.
On Wednesday, the Chiefs, per Aaron Wilson, announced that the deal with Worthy is a fully guaranteed $13.79 million over four years. The deal also includes a $6.849 million signing bonus. The Chiefs will finish up their last OTA session on Thursday.
The contract also includes a team option for a fifth year in Kansas City. However, if Worthy exceeds expectations, he could extend his rookie deal after the 2026 or 2027 season.
Next week, the team begins a three-day mandatory mini-camp for all players that will conclude the offseason workouts. The 28th overall 2024 first-round pick has not participated in much of the OTA sessions due to tightness in his hamstring.
At this stage, the Chiefs are being very cautious. To his credit, before the injury, Worthy worked out with Patrick Mahomes and attended the Rookie Mini-Camp, so he received some valuable time with his teammates and coaches.
Worthy’s plan likely includes more rest, light workouts, and getting ready for his first NFL Training Camp in July. Once again, the Chiefs will head to St. Joseph, Missouri, for the 14th straight year.
