Late Wednesday evening, the news broke that former Jacksonville Jaguars Receiver Zay Jones would visit the Kansas City Chiefs today. However, at 29 years old, and with the Chiefs’ preference to go younger at the wide receiver position, would this be the right move?
In the wake of recent news regarding Rashee Rice and the allegation that he had an altercation in a Dallas Bar on Sunday night, the Kansas City Chiefs should certainly look into adding another wide receiver. If the recent Rice investigation proves nothing and he is not charged, then he just has to deal with the aftermath of his high-speed accident last month.
Post NFL Draft, Zay Jones was a recent cut of the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 29-year-old receiver would be the veteran presence the Chiefs Kingdom has been clamoring for in Kansas City. Though I’m not opposed to adding Jones, I’m not sure I see the point.
With Xavier Worthy, Hollywood Brown, Kadarius Toney, Justin Watson, Skyy Moore, Nicco Remigio, and recently signed undrafted free agent Jaaron Hayak, can Jones even make the Chiefs’ final 53?
To date, the well-traveled Jones has played for the Bills, Raiders, and Jacksonville. His best season was 2022 with the Jaguars, when he had 823 receiving yards, five touchdowns, and a career-high 121 targets. However, he was limited to nine games last season with the Jaguars.
Again, I’m not opposed to adding Jones, but I prefer former Raiders Wide Receiver Hunter Renfrow. However, if Rice is suspended, Jones would be a suitable replacement until Rice is back on the field with the Chiefs.
