Chiefs Re-Sign Another Key Defender and have Eyes on Wide Receiver

During his interview with the media, Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquill casually dropped major news about one of his defensive mates signing a new deal with the team. Plus, are the Chiefs about to add a weapon for Patrick Mahomes?

The Kansas City Chiefs have a few hours before the official start time for free agency. On Tuesday, they re-signed Safety Deon Bush and signed free agent Tight End Irv Smith, Jr. Earlier today. However, during his media session this morning, the team didn’t make the announcement; that nugget came nonchalantly from Linebacker Drue Tranquill.

He indicated that Mike Pennel had resigned from the Chiefs in defensive tackle. According to reports, it’s a one-year deal but a big signing for Kansas City. He was in full attack mode during the postseason, anchoring the Chiefs’ defensive line.

Pennel was a key cog in the Chiefs’ defense during their Super Bowl LIV run, but he was also invaluable in the team’s most recent Super Bowl victory.

As with Tranquill, Pennel is another defensive glue guy. He won’t play every snap, but he’ll be part of the Chiefs’ rotation next season.

In other Chiefs news, though nothing is official, rumblings suggest Arizona Cardinals Wide Receiver Marquise Hollywood Brown would like to play for Kansas City. He’s dropped hints on social media.

The Chiefs will likely add another wide receiver, and Brown would make a lot of sense, but the Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers have several receivers who are likely to be cap casualties at 3:00 central time. Those names include Hunter Renfrow, Keenan Allen, and Mike Williams.
