How about those Chiefs? They may have been saving it for the playoffs. The defense put on quite a show as we spanked the Dolphins in the Wind Tunnel Bowl.
In this game, the Chiefs defense made just one big mistake, which resulted in the Dolphins’ one-and-only score Saturday Night.
Rashee Rice shined on offense, tallying 130 receiving yards and a touchdown (should’ve been two). Patrick Mahomes was no slouch; with 262 yards passing and 41 rushing yards, he matriculated the ball down the field to perfection.
Isaiah Pacheco had 89 rushing yards, and Kelce wasn’t too far from himself with 87 receiving yards. There were some drops and penalties. However, the officiating was particularly bad, with missed calls for both teams.
Let’s not forget our clutch kicker, Harrison Butker, who again outscored an entire offense (12 points) by himself and was perfect on the night, going 4-4 in field goal attempts, leading the way to a 26-7 wild card win.
Now, let’s talk defense.
L’Jarius Sneed was the star of the show. It was almost like he was showing everybody that he should’ve been first-team all-pro (yes, yes, he should have). If he was out to prove how good he is, he did a great job! Hill had one reception for 9 yards with Sneed covering him. Sneed prevented two Hill receptions, batting one away in the end zone.
Other significant contributors were furious George Karlaftis with 1.5 sacks and three hits on Tua Tagovailoa, Trent McDuffie with one tackle for a loss, and two passes defended. He put a little hurt on Hill with a vicious hit.
The defense looked Super Bowl-ready, and if the offense could clean up the drops just a little more and find ways to get in the red zone more… they could go all the way.
Buffalo is always a dog fight, and it being a road game does not concern me because home or away hasn’t seemed to matter much during Mahomes’ tenure with the Chiefs.
Baltimore is the big question because of their defense, but one game at a time, Chiefs Kingdom.
Let’s buckle in for a big-time cliffhanger of a game next Sunday in Buffalo.
GO CHIEFS!
